An Essay About the Sea's Resources

Man and the Sea

Look at these three different introductions. Think about how they are different, and then take a look at the comments.
For centuries, man has had an intimate relationship with the sea. He has used it for transportation, gathered shellfish and other foods from its shores and traveled to distant places to exchange good s or wage war. The sea presents boundless opportunities and resources if we can only find ways to harvest them. There is more than enough food to feed the world's population as well as minerals and fuels which could make every nation rich. Man is used to thinking of the world as a place where he is king and all the animals and lands exist for his pleasure. If the powerful choose to destroy the land or kill a species of animal or plant, he is free to do so. This is also true of his attitude towards the sea, which man now feels is his to exploit.

Many today feel that our future lies in space or in the sea, but the solution to our problems is much closer to home. Man needs to learn to take care of the land which he has been given, reduce his use of natural resources, and control his social problems.
