Tips
The following
are some tips from past students
to help you complete your assignments.
This
page will be updated each semester by past students. As it
has just been put on the web, we don't have many tips so far.
If you have some tips you would like to add, please
contact your teacher.
1. Selecting
an MEP topic
2. Writing
and designing the MEP poster
The guidelines given like
citation, title, subtitle are quite clear. The only thing
need to remind year one students about is to avoid plagiarism.
- Chi Ho
You must gather as much
information as possible on the topic. My experience told
me that near half of the infomation you find may not really
match the topic you chose. Then you may not have enough
infomation to finish your poster. - Chik
3. Interviewing
Medical and Engineering academic staff
The most important thing
concerning this topic is to prepare the questions well,
and learn how to make the interview more interactive. Try
to answer all the questions by yourselves first before asking
them, because the meaning of the interview is to ask for
more information which may not be found on books easily.
It may be possible to ask to have a lab tour, or show some
video, machines, or models, so that the interview will not
be just a question-answering session. - Chi Ho
Just meet more staff and
you will find something great from them. It may be
to get advice orto do with related apparatus. We even
got a demo by the medical staff
last year. Just prepare well before the interview
and ask whatever questions
you may have. They are more than welcome to give you
a helping hand.
Moreover, you may think of interviewing some staff more
than once. It helps.- Veron
4. Working
in a group
Well, the quality of
working in a group depends on different people. The only
tips are to stick to the schedule, work cooperatively and
have a clear work allocation system.
- Chi Ho
5. Writing
the MEP report
6. Writing
minutes
7. Presenting
the poster in Reading Week
This is even more simple.
There are only two tips:
1. Have good preparation. This is because good preparation
can increase the fluency and accuracy of the presentation.
You will not feel too nervous if you have a good preparation.
Try to have as much as role play as possible before the
real presentation to get a taste of being asked questions
during the presentation.
2. Have a clear presentation distribution. Divide different
parts of the presentation to different people. Each member
is responsible for a certain part of the presentation. This
can make the presentation more systematic and avoid two
people speaking at the same time. - Chi Ho
8. Holding
group meetings
9.
