Assessment


There is no exam for this course. All assessment is continuous over the year.

Satisfactory attendance, not lower than 80%, is a necessary condition for passing the course.

Discussion Is on Track
  • Control of the meeting is regained when/if topic goes off track.
  • Smooth transition from one agenda item to another.
Information from Interview Is Presented Clearly
  • Technical terms are defined.
  • Information is presented concisely.
  • Focus is on giving a summary rather than all information gathered.
  • Pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar are accurate.
Active Listening Skills Are Shown
  • Nodding and eye contact is used.
  • Active listening phrases such as “ahh”…”mmm” are used appropriately.
Group Interaction Skills Are Shown
  • Suggestions are made.
  • Information is asked for and given where necessary.
  • Disagreeing is done tactfully when appropriate.
Meeting Achieved Aims
  • A decision is made by the end of the meeting.
  • Work is allocated.

Criteria for Assessment of Minutes

Criteria

  • All key information is present.
  • Discussion is separated from action.
  • It is grammatically accurate.
  • Format is appropriate.
  • All components are present e.g. confirmation of the minutes, matters arising, A.O.B. etc.
  • Tone/register is appropriately formal.
  • It can be understood by someone who was not at the meeting.
  • Order of items correspond to the agenda.
  • Selection of information is not too brief, nor too long.

Criteria for Assessment of Poster Presentation

Language
  • It is concise.
  • It is grammatically accurate.
  • There is appropriate use of technical vocabulary.
Layout
  • Appearance is attention-grabbing and professional.
  • Font size, colour and spacing are appropriately used.
Content
  • Depth of information is appropriate.
  • Organization is clear and logical.
  • Graphics and text are integrated.
  • There is no plagiarism.
  • There are correctly formatted academic references.
  • All features of a poster are present e.g. title, heading, labels for graphics, citation, references, acknowledgements.
Audience Awareness
  • Eye contact is maintained.
  • Gestures are used to aid understanding.
  • Pace is appropriate.
  • Confidence is shown.
  • Visual aids are explained to aid understanding.

Criteria for Assessment of Written Report

Content
  • Content is logically organized.
  • Terminology is defined where necessary.
  • The aims of the report are fulfilled.
  • All sections are included e.g. contents page, introduction, executive summary etc.
  • There is a good selection of graphics.
  • Text and graphics are integrated.
  • Logical conclusions and recommendations are made.
  • The amount of information is appropriate for the task.
  • AMA citation and referencing is used and accurately formatted.
Language
  • Language is grammatically accurate e.g. tense.
  • There is a consistent used of academic tone.
  • Appropriate technical terminology is used.
Format
  • Clear headings are given and a consistent numbering system is used.
  • Layout looks professional.
  • The report is between 8-10 pages long.
